ABOUT KBB

HISTORY

Established in 1954 as the Koseto Brass Band under the late Mr. Nishimura as an educational event sponsored by the Koseto Community Center. KBB is an all volunteer wind and percussion ensemble for adult musicians, and is one of the oldest community bands in the Chubu(Central Japan) area.

KBB's mission is to give anyone who is willing, a dynamic and enriching opportunity to perform, contribute positively to the cultural environment of the community and to provide an opportunity for personal musical expression and growth. KBB is made up of players with various levels of musicianship. Members also come from all walks of life including ceramic craftsman, teachers, factory workers, business professionals, shop owners, housewives, and retirees.

KBB is a traditional concert band performing works from a wide variety of musical styles and eras. Our music library includes marches, classical, jazz, show tunes, contemporary and original compositions.

Throughout the year, KBB performs concerts at various indoor and outdoor venues. All of these concerts are FREE to the public and are performed at charity benefits, festivals and other special events.

In 2004 the Band celebrated it's 50th anniversary, and as if to honor the event, KBB was awarded the Emperor's Green Award for years of dedicated service to the community. The first awarded to an organization, and of course the first awarded to a Wind Ensemble. Late Honorary Bandmaster Hachiro Ukai accepted the award on behalf of Band from Emperor Akihito in the spring of 2005.

The the band recently celebrated it's 60th anniversary concert under direction the Music Director Byron Akemoto and President Hiroshi Majima in 2014. With the help of very many people in this area of central Japan, we hope to continue to bring music to the community for many more years.
